Post-purchase upsell: revenue share vs flat fee, where's the break-even?

We're on a flat-fee upsell app ($35/mo). Considering one of the ones that charges a % of upsell revenue instead, because on paper it's cheaper for us.

Then I did the maths and at our upsell volume it's not. But I might be doing the maths wrong. Anyone worked this out properly?

Rule of thumb: revenue share (usually 1-3%) beats flat fee until your upsell revenue passes roughly fee ÷ rate. At $35/mo and 2% that's $1,750/mo of upsell revenue. Below that, pay the %. Above it, pay the flat fee.

Most stores under ~500 orders/mo are below that line. You at 900 orders are probably above it, so your instinct is right — stay flat.

That's a much cleaner way to put it than my spreadsheet. We're at about $2.4k/mo in upsells so flat it is. Thanks.

the % ones also tend to have a free tier up to some revenue, good for testing whether post purchase even works for your products before paying anything
