SMS marketing for a UK store: worth it at all?

Everyone on the US side seems to swear by SMS. We're UK, homeware, ~4k email list. The compliance side looks more annoying here and the per-message cost is higher.

Anyone UK/EU actually running SMS and seeing it pay for itself?

UK client, fashion, ~9k list, ran SMS for a year. Verdict: worked for abandoned cart (one message, 1 hour after) and for a handful of drop announcements. Broadcast campaigns to the whole list did not pay for themselves and generated most of the opt-outs.

So: yes for one or two transactional-ish flows, no for campaigns. Keep it to that and it's profitable even at UK message prices.

Helpful, thanks. Will try just the abandoned cart flow first.
